Problem
Almost all hard drives in modern computer are SATA devices, so you can enable AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) mode to improve their performance a bit. However, due to some conservative factory defaults, this option is not enabled, and you may find it's not possible to enable it after installing Windows - BSOD will fill up your desktop... This guide will help you Fix Windows 7 AHCI BSOD, enable AHCI mode safely.
Solution
  1. Press Start Orb, type in "Regedit".
  2. Right click on the "regedit" item in "Programs" section, choose "Run as administrator".
  3. If UAC prompt box pops up, confirm it.
  4. Navigate to the following path in left navigation pane:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msahci
  5. Right click on "Start" value to modify it.
  6. Set the value data to 0.
  7. If you are using a RAID adapter or other interface, please set "Start" value to 0 in the following path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStorV HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStor
  8. Now you can reboot and turn on AHCI configurations in BIOS
